Dima's Story
This sweet boy was adopted with help of our in country representative, George, and the amazing staff at Kharkiv #1.
What happened to Dima from Kramatorsk, who was abandoned by his parents? The boy Dima from Kramatorsk was born with a serious diagnosis. Parents learning that excess fluid accumulates in the child's head immediately wrote a refusal and left him in the hospital. The name Kalekin was given to him by the nurses of the department.
Then the boy was sent to a specialized orphanage. There, after the examination, the doctors predicted only 1.5 years of life for him, no more. But time passed, and the baby lived and developed, not in the same way, of course, like all children, with this he had problems.
Then, after 4 years, this orphanage began to be disbanded, they wanted to send all the children to Russia, but the head doctor was against it, because there were very "heavy" kids who could not stand such a long trip. The management managed to agree that the children should be redirected to Kharkiv.
For Dimochka, even this distance turned out to be very difficult. Every bump or hole on the road threatened him with a fracture of the cervical vertebrae. To somehow fix the boy's head, he was transported in a trough covered with pillows. Because of the disease, Dima could not walk, and he ate from a syringe. But at the same time, he was able to learn to speak in short sentences and this surprised everyone around him. But everyone around him understood that Dima would have a very complex future. It remained only to hope for a miracle, maybe someone would want to adopt him.
And a miracle happened, a couple from America learned about the boy. Ernest and Ruth Chavez from Vermont were in a special database of people who are ready to adopt a child. They already had four children of their own and seven adopted children. Soon the couple flew to Ukraine to meet Dima Kalekin. The boy from the first minutes won their hearts, he had such a positive energy and he loved to laugh. Chavez began to prepare documents for adoption, in this they already had experience, so they coped with the formalities quickly. A few months later, Dima saw Ernest and Ruth again, he was very happy about this meeting.
In the fall of 2015, a boy from Kramatorsk had a large and loving family in the United States. His adoptive parents gave him a new name, Zebedaya Chavez (abbreviated as Zeb). The boy very quickly adapted to the new environment, parents, brothers and sisters surrounded him with care and attention and he began to change before his eyes. Zeb learned to eat independently and be physically active. "At home, he ate his breakfast with a spoon for the first time and drank a bottle of apple juice. Every day he enjoys food more and more, and this makes us very happy, "Ernest Chavez shared in social networks. Zeb's speech also began to progress, he learned English and knows how to speak well.
After an examination, it turned out that the child remained unharmed with the frontal lobes of the brain, which play an important role in the development of intelligence. Therefore, Zeb has great potential. He only needs serious help in physical development. Thanks to the efforts of Ernest and Ruth, Zeb has already gone through several important operations that should improve his condition. Of course, he still has a huge path ahead of him, which will require considerable effort. But I want to believe that this wonderful boy and his new family will be able to cope with everything. What Ernest and Ruth are doing is admirable. It's nice to know that there are such kind and caring people on earth.
